Just a couple of months ago we sent Lily a care package with a personal letter, written in Chinese, telling her of our love for her and how much we wanted her to be a part of our forever family. We told her that one day real soon we would be coming to China to get her and make her our OWN! We are making good on our promise, Lily. We are almost here!
It is 5:00 AM and we are stiring after a good nights sleep. Yesterday was just plain fun and LOOOOOONG. United switched planes on us at the last minute and the change resulted in a complimentary upgrade to business class! Kaching! Drew and Christian, in typical boy/kid fashion promptly tested out every push button within arms reach, reclining seats, switching on multiple lights, T.V.'s, etc. It was pretty much a circus in our neck of the woods -- fun and entertaining never-the-less! Settling in for 14 hours of eating, sleeping, doing some homework, and watching movies passed the time while we traveled to the other side of the world.
The feature film was "Contaigen" - a movie about a virus brought over from China and killing millions of people. Christian's commented a quarter of the way into the movie, "I don't think I want to watch this anymore". Jim wants to get a facemask for the rest of the trip.
As we stood in line at customs the boys decided all the hoopla about what a pain the long flight would be was over rated and it was really was not such a big deal. Jim and I rolled our eyes thinking these boys need a "coach trip" home. We linked up with other families from America World that are also adopting, met our guide, Sherry, and boarded the bus for our hotel. It is pretty chilly here by Virginia standards and Sherry instructed us to wear "all your clothes" to keep warm as we tour the various sights over the next two days.
As I reflect on the past week I am blown away by God's goodness and richest blessings in getting us to this point. He has provided beyond all that we could ask or imagine through gifts from family and friends. We have been propelled and carried by the prayers of many of you reading this. God even blessed this pretty-tired girl with a fully reclining airline seat: I feel so loved!
Last Friday through Sunday I found myself lying flat on my back with the flu and begining to douubt if I would have the energy to travel and time to pull four days of packing into two. Would God really let us get this close after all these years of waiting only to have everything start falling apart at the last minute? I pulled out my Bible and the Spurgeon devotional I regularly use. The scripture at the top of the page for the day read. "God who calls you is faithful and He will do it." (I Thess 5:24). It has been a five year wait for our little Lily with all sorts of struggles along the way. The fact that our family is waking up in a China hotel this morning is a total act of God's love and faithfulness. He's got a promise to keep and He is making good on it! Praise Him.
